The plugin works and I got somewhat less than 50% new icons using this plugin in my database - nice eye-candy!
Problem is that my database size is >400kB now compared to 30kB previously.
Is there a quick way to delete all the new icons and restore the originals or it can only be done manually?
I kept a separate copy of the original slim database file but I would like to keep using and editing the bloated version if there is a way to easily delete all the newly retrieved favicons when necessary…
No, sorry. It's a manual task I'm afraid.
The plugin does not attempt to keep track of the icons that it downloads. It could be done but it is a significant added complexity for only a small gain (as you say, keeping a backup before a large batch operation is always wise anyway).
I've not really looked into the problem of increased database size too much (mine is ~ 250K for ~500 entries so perfectly manageable) but you might find that a reasonable proportion of the extra size can be removed through "Tools / Database Maintenance" although again, backups are good :-)
