No

In the download section I see "KDiff3Setup_0.9.90.exe".

I assume from the name that that is only for
Administrators -- most setup programs only work for
Administrators, in my experience.

Is there a windows binary version that regular users
can use?

This should be fixed for KDiff3Setup_0.9.91.exe.

    Doesn't look fixed in 0.9.91
Maybe you meant it will be fixed in a future version?

Could you please test this version?
    http://kdiff3.sourceforge.net/KDiff3Setup_0.9.92_beta.exe

The installer contains a dialog that asks if KDiff3 should be installed for all users. Disable that checkbox.
    Please report if it works.

    Cheers,
    Joachim

But, that is still an exe. What I was trying to explain above is that I think most people looking to use it without having admin rights, are going to look for a zip version, and not see one. Only seeing an exe version, they'll assume this is only useful for people who can and are willing to install as admins -- I think it is unlikely that people will download the exe version just to see if it happens to work without being an admin?

I gave it a spin, btw, and just clicked all the way through, except as you said, I unchecked "Install for all users".

I got an error at the end, not surprisingly:

    Error opening file for writing:

    C:\Program Files\KDiff3\kdiff3.exe

    Click Abort...

The options from here are Abort, Retry, and Ignore.

Surely what the user needs to do at this point, is
    try a different directory?

Ok. I see that I misunderstood your wish.
Providing a zip file is simple. I can do so, but certain features like the integration with explorer or other tools require the installer as a program. These features won't be available then.
Originally the installer-exe really had the problem that it only worked for admins. Now that problem should be fixed if you specify a directory you have write-access to (e.g. under your home dir) and disable the "Install for all users" checkbox. Even the Windows-Explorer integration should work then.
So I really fixed a bug, but I also agree that for some people a zip-file would be easier.
Perhaps I can also detect the rights of the current user in the installer and set default values in the installer so that people can just hit ok without worrying.
    Thanks for pointing this out.
    Joachim

Maybe a cheaper workaround would be to explicitly note in the release notes that the Windows installer (exe) version will also work for limited users?

I mean, I think it is probably too much to expect people to guess that, but I think it is more reasonable to expect that if they are looking for a limited user solution, and they see no zip, they might read the release notes, and then find out that they can use the exe?

I mean, yes, it seems best to me, for the users, to have the separate zip file.

But, that might not be best overall, b/c that may divert more of your time to doing that instead of other things.

Anyway, I think this can be closed as fixed now.
