I responded to this bug report because of your earlier mail to this
list.

What would help me to debug this problem is access to a version that
doesn't have the problem and runs on my non-KDE system, so I can tell if
it is a regression or a problem that has always been in there. It will
also allow me to check if it's in kdiff3 or not, because if I build an
old version from source on my system it performs similarly to
kdiff3-qt-0.9.98.

When I get some time I will try to install an old version of fedora in a
virtual machine.

In the mean time, if anyone can provide any of the following this would
be great:
- two files that show this problem
- startup duration of the good version vs startup duration of the bad one
- a version of kdiff3-qt that doesn't have the problem
