Hi Neal, I don't know enough about desktop files to help here, but I know that the libkdiff3part.so isn't essential anymore, since everything is in the kdiff3-executable now. The libkdiff3part.so would only be necessary for other programs like KDevelop to integrate KDiff3. But since KDevelop4 isn't ready yet, I didn't test this anyway. So just don't install libkdiff3part.so and kdiff3part.desktop if possible.
