Hi! Is it possible to change the keys used in "merge mode" to select between lines from file A or B. I would like to avoid the current settings where I have to press two keys on my keyboard (e.g. "Ctrl" and "1") for each selection. Instead I would like to use some "free" key, for example a function key (one of F1, F2, F3, ... if one happens to be free), or some other one-keystroke-key. Thanks, Johan Holmberg |

Hi David, Printing is currently not worked on. - As you point out printing only areas that are different/relevant/user-defined is very important. This is the biggest thing because it affects the whole design. - Otherwise it will need a print dialog and manager that coordinates the printing. - The drawing is currently done in a widget, but they need to be extended, so they can also draw to a printer-device instead. - Some people also want printing of the merge output. - Some people also want printing of the directory view. Joachim , is diff printing being worked on? your forum reply from almost one year ago (march 3rd of 2005) mentioned that it was a "big feature", implying that it would take some time to implement. do you have an outline/notes that you can post that detail what needs to be done to get printing working? since even rudimentary printing would be a boon for kdiff3 i'd support rolling out the most basic printing function that can be implementing with the least amount of effort. please add this to the printing feature wish list: - currently the diff view displays all the common characters and the differences. ideally i'd like to be able to collapse the common areas (with + and - symbols) so that only the areas with different characters are displayed. this would allow a more concise printing especially for large files with small diffs. - thanks for creating kdiff3. peace, david |

Hello, kdiff sounds like a great idea, exactly what I've been looking for. So I testdrove and had to find out that mixed texts don't work or that arabic in general doesn't work. Since I don't want to post some hundred kb in images, check the two pngs and see what's wrong with it. The letters are not joines as they should be in arabic. That's the main problem and would be great if this could be solved. http://temp.sprachwerker.de/kdiff-ar1.png http://temp.sprachwerker.de/kdiff-ar2.png Best, Bernd. |

Hi Andris, You probably want to select all places with only whitespace differences from one source. In the Merge-menu there are commands to select all unsolved whitespace conflicts from A, B or C. The whitespace autoselection in the config-dialog works only for the next merge you start. Cheers, Joachim Am Donnerstag, 8. Hi, =20 How do I make kdiff3 ignore whitespace differences? This is a problem for me especially when I want to merge files where one branch has removed all "trailing spaces" (e.g. due to settings in TextPad) at end of line, while the other branch hasn't. No, QT3.x for windows wasn't released "to the public". So currently only people having received the QT3.x libraries personally from Trolltech can build it on windows. In fact, this is not 100% true. You can find the library in some books and there as even been a gpl port of the Linux libraries on sf.net. M-A Jeanson, Marc wrote: > Thanks for the reply! Joachim is still porting from QT 3.3 to 4.01. You probably built with QT3.3 on Linux. Hi, in some cases it would be useful to have a exported report in html for directory and filed content (like guiffy creates - see example under http://www.guiffy.com/savedasex/About_Diff_ReportW7.html). Is a feature similar to that planned? I would appreciate it very very much :) Regards, Volker |

To my regrets, no. It took me a few days to go through all that, and it would take a significant part of that time to go through it again to record all problems I encountered. As we are here working under very high time pressure at the moment (and for another few months), spending that time is simply not possible now and for the near future. Hello all, first thanks to Joachim for providing such a well-designed, soundly implemented, and extremely useful tool! In particular the three-way merge is a lifesaver in some situations[1]. Kdiff3 has become *the* merge tool for our software configuration management. [1] And it is vertainly helpful that it works exactly like the three-way merge in ClearCase! :-) (I worked with CC at $work[-1].) We develop software for and on (among other platforms) the new Sun Opteron machines (x86 architecture) with Solaris 10. I did not find a kdiff3 binary for this environment, so I took on to install kdiff3 from source against the Sun freeware packages of QT and KDE. This turned out to be surprisingly difficult (let me spare you the details), but I succeeded installing QT from source and kdiff3 against that. So we can use kdiff3 without KDE support now, which is already a great thing (as I mentioned above). But in the meantime we saw that the KDE version (which I can use with Linux) offers the "Configure Shortcuts" dialog. As we often have larger merges to do, tuning the keyboard navigation to our needs would be very helpful. Does anyone have a kdiff3 binary for Solaris 10 x86 that can run with the shared libraries of the Sun freeware packages in /opt/sfw? I'd be willing to create a nest of symlinks or LD_LIBRARY_PATHs as necessary, but KDE support would be great. Hi, Thank you for interest in diff-ext. I'm glad to hear that the extension is useful. Yes it is not built with Unicode. So in order to use it with language other than English one have to have matching setting for "Language for non-Unicode programs". You can see it on the "Advanced" tab of "Regional and Language Options". There is also a glitch with language selection. If you can not select the desired language in the setup program look in the registry for th key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Z\diff_ext The value of "language" variable should match windows locale identifier. For example, English is 1033(0x409), Russian is 1049(0x419). See here for more locale identifiers: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/intl/nls_238z.asp PS: I would really appreciate if someone could translate diff-ext to other languages. So if you think that you can help me with translation, just drop me a line. Serg. > Hi > > I tried diff-ext, and I saw the problem about language selection. Hi
I tried diff-ext, and I saw the problem about language selection. I
think the extension is not built with Unicode. I would have to build it
for x64 too...
Beside this, it seems to work well. But since I am using Beyond Compare
for 2-way diffing, I already have the same kind of functionality.
I added the needed registry key to support folder diffing and it seems
to work well. Just rip the following text and save it as a .reg file and
import it. It will add folder diffing.
--------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\diff_ext]
@="{A0482097-C69D-4DEC-8AB6-D3A259ACC151}"

Hi KDiff3-Users, When KDiff3 is installed under Windows, it extends the Send-To context menu in Windows-Explorer to open selected files with KDiff3. Yama (from www.pclinuxonline.com) also provides such an extension for KDE-Konqueror: http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=13546 But there is one problem: Both solutions only open files in the same directory. For Windows there is an even better solution. The tool Diff_ext by Sergey Zorin is an Windows-Shell extension that even allows to select files in different subdirectories and can be used with any diff tool: http://diff-ext.sourceforge.net/ I only encountered two small problems: - German isn't supported directly and oddly English didn't work, but selecting the other language correctly showed the English texts. - Setup didn't allow to use this extension for directories. But even so Diff_ext is very useful. Thanks to Yama and Sergey! Cheers, Joachim |
