Hi KDiff3 forum people, i'm new to KDiff3's GUI, i've worked with WinMerge so long i guess i forgot what the learning curve was/is for a new substitute like KDiff3.

When i compare a directory for example i get names then green or black squares, i've read what the green and black squares mean (it would be great to actually have a legend displayable in the Main Window btw), but when i click to the right of a black & green square combo i get very cryptic "menu" and the only thing i can understand is the "do nothing" option, i can't tell what A or B mean or even "Delete (if exists)" means, can we have mouse-overs here?

I can't tell how to execute a copy or move or delete or rename (all usual things, WinMerge spells out clearly). And i cannot refresh a tree or branch, i noticed that File>Reload (F5) fails to find changes, File>Open will do the whole tree, but not a branch. Can this all be explained in a quick way or can mouse-overs or maybe buttons exist to explain what is meant by A or B etc.?

Another issue is that i cannot undo the comparison window that happens if i double-click a name, it's great that it is so simple, but how do i make it go away, where's the "X" button for example to close it?

Also, when it does this immediate comparison pane it doesn't shift the tree structure up so that i'm able to view my currently selected name, most often it occludes that part of the tree structure view and i lose my place in the tree and i have to scroll to again every time, can this be looked at and fixed in the GUI?

Thanks for a well thought-out and developed program KDiff3, i hope my comments may be answered and those answers help me use KDiff3 as easy as i use WinMerge, cheers!

    Hi Cor'e=),

You might want to read some docs. Especially:
    http://kdiff3.sourceforge.net/doc/dirmergevisible.html
    http://kdiff3.sourceforge.net/doc/dothemerge.html

A, B and C represent the files or folders you chose in the open dialog.
Normal operation is to copy to the destination which is explicitely chosen, or C, or B for two sources.
So choosing "A" would copy the file from A to the destination.

Refreshing a file is F5, a tree Shift-F5. (See the menu directory.)

Currently you can't close the file view, except my minimizing it with the splitter. If you
made changes that need saving, KDiff3 will prompt you when you try to show another file.

    Best regards,
    Joachim

PS: Thanks for pointing out your issues. Although the number of topics is a bit much, given my limited time.
