#1 error during encoding

the newly installed kimg2mpg creates an error during
encoding and stops.

**ERROR: [ppmtoy4m] Expecting maxval == 255, not
65535!
**ERROR: [yuvscaler] Could'nt read YUV4MPEG header!
**ERROR: [mpeg2enc] Could not read YUV4MPEG2
header: system error (failed read/write)!

versions installed:
ImageMagick-6.1.8-6
mjpegtools-1.7.0-0.pm.0cvs20050401 from Packman

it is running on a SuSE 9.3

what can be the reason?
