I have had a look at Kconfigure, but what would be very useful is a graphical manager for configure and automake files, that understood what was going on inside, and let you make changes in the correct places.
Having had problems with some packages that could not be 'configured' easily, I have had to delve into the configure and configure.in files to try and fix things, without success so far.
The inter-relationships can get so complex that a graphical tool is surely long overdue.
