    Beebock - 2007-09-10

    Hi Simon / Dima,

Thanks for your help in the other thread. I have just tested it talking to a friend for over 30 minutes and it is now cutting out.

When I look in the ALSA mixer, I see that the little control knob for the mic goes up and down, and mutes the mic every so often. I have no way of testing this without the telbox as I do not own a microphone.

This might be a configuration issue, but not sure what so any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks
    Richard

Sometimes I see similar thing on my system too.
I do not know exactly why it happens. Maybe it is
getMixerVolumes() call that ends before system() call
has finished in setCurrentVolume() - it's hard to
reproduce and say for sure. Still, the way how
getMixerVolumes currently works does not seem
reliable and I would think of changing it.

      P.S.
Simon, please, see the following bug and a fix for it:

        Hi Dima,

The slidder is only moving while I am talking, so I have a feeling that it is reacting to the pitch in my voice. The reason I am saying pitch is because I tried shouting at it and it does not show this behavior. It seems that it is leaning the 'best' setting automaticaly. Any way for switching that off?

I'm doing further testing with a friend tonight and see if a restart has magically 'fix' something.

At the moment I have an onboard Intel sound system, but frantically looking for my hercules sound card as I know it is in the house somewhere.

Simon - In regards to the bug with the volume slidders, I sometimes get the issue where the slidder goes to 0 when I hang up. This is not a new behavior, I used to have this in the previous installation.

        Thanks for the input
        Richard

It is Skype "feature" called AGC (Automatic Gain Control).
I turned it off and the problem disappeared.

          Good luck,

      Hi Dima,

      SPOT ON!

For ref for other people, it is located in .Skype folder in your home directory.

I have set the volume using the KB2KSKYPE UI and it is working correctly. I'll fully test tomorrow evening

      Regards
      Richard
