KAVVV gebruikers-nota (note for KAVVV competition users)
NL/be : De versie 0.2.3 kan getest worden voor competitie gebruik. Laat iets weten!
En: Try from version 0.2.3 on for use in competition use. Feedback welcome!
Purpose:
- To have available an electronic/computer version of the manual KAVVV tabletennis competition form.
- To avoid errors at manual calculation at the end of the competition match, more specific the details of the sets and matches of all the players.
- Win time of the counting of the data, so that more time stays available for a drink :-)
- have a screen that looks as close as possible like the original form (to make it easy to use for everyone in charge already).
- run on cheap/light hardware: the program should be able to run on an old P4 like system, or a netbook, all running Linux of course.
- made for Gambas2 (reason see above, I know there is Gambas3 now).
Install, Test-Run only:
You need:
- Linux installed on your computer (desktop, laptop, netbook,...), including your distrubution's version of the Gambas2 interpreter. (Gambas 3 version might become available if requested).
- Download of the file kavvvka.gambas. make executable, this file should run with the Gambas2 runtime.
If any problem, download the sourcecode version and run from the Gambas2 IDE; there you can also compile and get a startup icon on the desktop.
Install, Source Code (developers & interested ones):
See above, plus:
- The complete Gambas2 IDE (development environment)
- Download the file from the source repository with the highest version number and ending on .tar.gz
- Unpack with your filemananager or with
tar -xzvf Kavvvka-0.0.00.tar.gz
(replace 0.0.00 with highest number; file you downloaded)
- Start Gambas2, open, choose unpacked directory that is the project name
- Run with F5 or the run button at top of the IDE.
- Modify as you wish. Satisfied with your modification? Send it to us!
- Make an executable .gambas file from the IDE with "make executable", mark the option "icon on desktop". Now you can run it without starting the whole IDE.
First use:
- Best start with some general settings, like the points / set etc. (eg 21, 11)
- competition settings, like the number of weeks (= number of matches to play in one season or half-year), e.g. 22.
- local teams and location which is probably always the same, as you only need to make the form for home matches.
Use:
- Fill the players number and name underneath (the names pop up in the schedule)
- Fill the player-combination of the double (can be done later as well)
- Fill the points of every set (the results for the game, match and players are calculated and shown on the form).
- At the end: read and check the results and write on the official form. Print is planned for the future (is in the work). Use a screenshot if you want to have some form of paper copy (eg KSnapshot in KDE).
- Choose the quit with "Save" option if you want to retrieve the current data, e.g. if you have to interrupt the data entry (laptop battery?)
Updates:
- If you have a working program, existing of the Kavvvka.gambas file that is executed, you can download the new Kavvvka.gambas, and replace the old one by the new. Make it executable again.
- If you compiled from source, or start from the gambas2 IDE, you can download the source, unpack and open it in the IDE to run or compile or hack.
Translation:
- The programming work is done in English to make it more useful for all programmers, not just the users.
- The form is in Dutch (language of the KAVVV League it is made for).
- Dutch user help is somewhat planned, but the form is known and should be clear as it is. Or just give me a hand...
Future:
- Maybe some storage in a database could be added, although there is a good online result tracking system in use for the moment at the federation of KAVVV. The only purpose would be to store more detail about the sets, locally.
- Export of the results to upload on the KAVVV site?
- Gambas3 version?
ps:
Code to be adapted to your own needs if playing other league/rules/sport.
