#174 'Hide' button for logging seems inconsistent

Scenario (svn 2490):
- start the application with logging visible
- press the 'hide' button. The logging window disappears as expected.
- select menu File > Settings
- see the logging visibility indicated as active
Note: Although this might be unexpected, it is intentional: the effect of the button is meant to be non-persistent (current session only).
Note 2: to activate the logging, I can deactivate it in the setting, press the 'Apply' button, activate it again, and press the 'Apply' or 'Ok' button.
Or alternatively, I can exit and restart the application.

All this is hard to understand for a user. Consider if the button should have the same effect as the Settings menu.
