Currently the fields for card content are edited with a keyboard which matches the character set. I would like to have an alternate mode where I can edit hex bytes.
Use cases:
1) workaround for missing keyboards. For example I want to use phonetical characters in a field but there is no keyboard for it.
2) I could use it as an alternate way to edit very strange characters like for example chinese characters - there is an keyboard but it is hard to use for me.
3) I would use this feature also in the reverse direction to display the Unicode for a chinese character which was entered with the chinese keyboard.
Note: a solution might be related to the tracker #2808257 (interpreted html fragments in the card content fields, which would enable support for tables and similar; note that html supports a representation of Unicode strings) but maybe interpreted html fragments do not cover all the use cases.
This feature needs definitely more analysis:
- appropriate user interface; including sort order, search fields, etc
- which level of hex bytes? Raw UTF-8 bytes are not appropriate; I am thinking rather at Unicode characters as hex bytes, and the software doing the correct Unicode to UTF-8 encoding.
