You may have seen the message because lattice-word-align expects the model file as its first argument; this is an error in the help message of utils/ convert_slf.pl. Also, the help messagepl should probably be updated to use lattice-align-words as its suggested input. Karel, you made some recent changes to that program; do you think you could help with this?
