Hi guys, I know I should have done this step earlier. After taking over this project from Christophe Thommeret long ago and doing a lot of interesting stuff, I've been busy with real life in the past months (years) and the situation will not change in the future. As I'm unable to maintain Kaffeine in an appropriate manner, I've decided to abandon the project. Therefore I'm asking whether someone is interested in taking over maintainership; I've listed the current state of the project at the end of this mail. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to deal with patches earlier [ sorry guys! ], so I don't have a logical candidate or so. But if somebody is willing to take over [ you should know a bit about Qt and KDE and preferably have some Dvb / Atsc equipment at hand ], I will try to support the handover. Regards, Christoph - Last released version (QT4 / KDE 4): Kaffeine 1.2.2 on 2011-04-04. This should still be stable enough for many purposes. - Bug tracker: https://bugs.kde.org/ - Git repository: KDE extragear; https://projects.kde.org/projects/extragear/multimedia/kaffeine/repository There is a transition from xine to vlc going on; needs some love. - Mailing lists / releases: hosted at sourceforge. - Home page: http://kaffeine.kde.org/ which is down at the moment (but can be reactivated if someone takes care of it); archived version: http://web.archive.org/web/20130613232503/http://kaffeine.kde.org/ - Varia: https://git.reviewboard.kde.org |

I completly missed that mail somehow, appologies, a CC to me is always helpfull ;) Next time it would be preferred if you send a patch instead of a link. It would have been even better if Sven submittted said patch so we could have committed it to git much earlier! Hello! If you are a KabelBW customer (DVB-C in Baden-Württemberg, Germany), then you should consider checking if the entry for Kabel_BW inside your "scanfile.dvb" looks like this: [dvb-c/de-Kabel_BW] C 114000000 6900000 NONE QAM256 Kabel_BW has changed their frequency table just recently, so the old entry frequency that was used for the scan for a couple of years now no longer works. Kind Regards, Dirk |

Hello, after upgrading my Debian system from squeeze to wheezy, including a kaffeine upgrade from version 1.0 to version 1.2.2, kaffeine always played only one video (maximum). After that, when I chose another video to be played, kaffeine did not crash, but the video was not played. So, I had to restart kaffeine to play a second video. When I chose several videos at the same time, kaffeine did not even play one of them. In an attempt to solve the problem, I compiled the Debian squeeze version of kaffeine (1.0) from source, but after installing, the same errors occurred. Then, I installed the official Debian squeeze binary package of kaffeine, and now the problems are gone. Any idea why these problems occur with a downloaded binary package kaffeine 1.2.2 and with a source-compiled kaffeine 1.0, though they do not occur with a downloaded binary package 1.0? Regards Christoph |

Dear Kaffeine Team, now that digital TV introduction is nearing completion throughout Australia some analog TV transmissions are starting to be switched off releasing those frequencies for other uses. I live in Adelaide where SBS, the Special Broadcasting Service, has accepted the opportunity to shift one of its two transmissions from UHF to VHF. All Adelaide TV stations now have a main presence on VHF and are repeated on UHF to areas in the Adelaide Foothills that are shaded from the main VHF transmitters located elsewhere in the Adelaide Hills. This change simplifies antennas and any distribution amplifiers in the Adelaide area that have, until now, been a problem for SBS with only a UHF presence. Some other regions of Australia, for various reasons, are likely to follow shortly. This SBS frequency change affects Kaffeine's "scanfile.dvb" file. The entry for SBS in your current file shows "564500000". It should now read "184500000" as follows. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [dvb-t/au-Adelaide] T 177500000 7MHz 3/4 NONE QAM64 8k 1/16 NONE T 191625000 7MHz 3/4 NONE QAM64 8k 1/16 NONE T 219500000 7MHz 3/4 NONE QAM64 8k 1/16 NONE T 226500000 7MHz 3/4 NONE QAM64 8k 1/16 NONE T _184500000_ 7MHz 2/3 NONE QAM64 8k 1/8 NONE [dvb-t/au-AdelaideFoothills] T 711500000 7MHz 3/4 NONE QAM64 8k 1/16 NONE T 732500000 7MHz 3/4 NONE QAM64 8k 1/16 NONE T 760500000 7MHz 2/3 NONE QAM64 8k 1/8 NONE T 781625000 7MHz 3/4 NONE QAM64 8k 1/16 NONE T 795500000 7MHz 3/4 NONE QAM64 8k 1/16 NONE . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . (The SBS UHF frequency "760500000" is unaffected by this change. I have tested this change in "scanfile.dvb" and it works fine for me. You can verify this data change by looking up: http://www20.sbs.com.au/transmissions/index.php?pid=2&id=548 Keep up the really good work. I have enjoyed watching TV on a variety of computers running Linux and Kaffeine and hope to continue to do so. (I attempted to register on your site earlier today. I now realise that was probably inappropriate. I am unlikely to ever use that registration, so it can be deleted.) Rick Matthews |

I changed my dvb driver from being in the kernel and now kaffeine won't start (vlc works fine). $ kaffeine QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Hi, I'm currently experimenting with kaffeine from git. Unfortunately it does not work as well as the latest stable version (1.2.2). I get an error message when switching channels (my DVB-C stick uses the em28xx kernel driver): "No device found". I tried debugging where the error comes from.. but I didn't get anything out of the code. What I get on the command line: 22:46:18 DvbLinuxDevice::acquire: cannot open frontend "/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0" 16 After that a popup-message with above message shows up. I just have to wait a few seconds (1 or 2), afterwards switching channels works fine. I wrote a patch the logs the errno (because I wanted to know why the open() failed). Here it is: [0]. Does anybody have an idea what's going on with kaffeine from git master? I'd like to help debugging that issue, but I have no clue where to start. All I know is that the open() fails randomly (it's always working with kaffeine 1.2.2). Kind Regards, Martin [0] http://paste.kde.org/510500/ |

Hi, I have a patch for crashes which occur after resume from RAM. This is because the DVB devices are disconnected from the USB bus during the suspend/resume cycle. The patch is attached here and also to a bug report at kde.org: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=274221 Could anybody review it and merge? thanks, -- js suse labs |
