It is always difficult to answer this one. The biggest thing standing
in the way of a 2.7 release is all of the FIXMEs in the test suite.
There are currently 294. One way for anyone who is interested to speed
up the eventual release would be to look at one or more of these and
post a bug report with diagnostics (or better yet patches that fix
them) for some of these issues.
2.7 is tantalizingly close, but we can't do a release with all of
these disabled tests. Some of these test problems may be due to the
tests themselves - they are taken directly from CPython and so may not
apply to Jython. Others may need tweaking to run on Jython. Most are
probably small differences in Jython from CPython that need to be

quite know how to get more specific than that at the moment. It is
certainly overdue and I'm sorry for that.
