Thanks for the input.
I checked my .jython , and things were correct there; but not on the
actual command line for java.
I've changed it to include the ms*.jar files (msbase.jar, msutil.jar,
mssqlserver.jar) in "-classpath"; and
added the directories to "-Djava.ext.dir=" on the command line.
Now I get a statement that it can't locate "java" from the following

Finally, I have success connecting to databases using Jython and zxJDBC
I'm presently running Jython v2.2b1 on Solaris 10 x86 with Java 6u1,
mySQL v5.0.27-standard and Connector/J v5.0.5 . I've removed the old
zxJDBC.jar, and am using the one built into jython.jar.=20
The last show-stopper appeared to be this: python.home (Jython
installation directory) wasn't in my extensions (java.ext.dirs property)
list. Therefore, I was getting java NameErrors, etc when trying to
import com.ziclix.python.sql.zxJDBC. It only took me a day to figure
this one out; I guess my dev skills have gotten rusty.
Just a FYI, I had to table my development due to other work tasks; so
only just got back to this. Of course, that time and now I took the time
to install mySQL, vmware workstation, solaris 10 x86, java 6, etc.
And BTW, I'm running jython.jar directly, so my java command line looks
java -Dpython.home=3D<installdir> -Djava.ext.dirs=3D<extension dirs>
-jar <installdir>/jython.jar $@
This way, I don't have to list each and every jar file in my classpath.
Thanks for all the help!
