Java has a few such > places, so no big deal if Jython has them. Things that I recall having bitten me or others around me: - toString( arg ) methods don't get identified correctly - If an interface X defines a field flag (boolean flag=false), and a class Y implements X and declares the same field (boolean flag=true), Java has an unexpected behavior: Y y = new Y(); X x = y; x.flag != y.flag Jython does not follow the same "hiding" rules, because you can't declare that a variable is an instance of the interface instead of the class. (This is more a Java gotcha, but because the developer tested in Jython, he didn't identify the problem): > And sort of on the side, is interest waning as people > are excited in Python.NET? I haven't heard much about the experimental Python.NET implementation for quite a while. It doesn't seem to be generating a lot of interest or making a lot of progress, but maybe I'm just not watching the right sites... kb |

Hi everyone, Well, all of the Java errors I am getting are coming from Jython's own libraries!!! This seems quite strange to me. The errors I am getting is any line of Java code generated from a Python library in which it uses a "?" for conditionals in Java. The error is shown below: .\jpywork\xml\dom\ext\reader\__init__.java:175: not a statement (t$0$PyObject = frame.getlocal(1)).__nonzero__() ? frame. getglobal("ReleaseNode").__call__(frame.getlocal(1)) : t$0$PyObject; ^ I get 13 of these errors all on Jython's own libraries and all for the same reason. I am sure that I am doing something wrong because I haven't heard anyone else complain about this problem. Thanks in advance for your help. - Morgan |

Hello everyone, I have a question that seems simple enough yet I have not been able to find an answer to it. When I compile a file with the "-d" option and thus compile the dependent code (i.e. libraries, etc.) I get 13 errors. These are simple Java errors that I fix. The problem is that when I recompile with jythonc it overwrites the .java files that I have fixed and thus the same 13 errors show-up again. How can I use jythonc to compile after I have corrected my errors without overwriting the files over and over again. Thanks in advance for your help. - Morgan |

Hi, I'm researching Jython, because I'm being a bit of a local evangelist, but must find out the sharp places. Where you sense the need to drop back into Java. What parts of Jython really seem to not work properly, or frustrate you the most? Java has a few such places, so no big deal if Jython has them. And sort of on the side, is interest waning as people are excited in Python.NET? Thanks, findler __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
