The only reason I can think of that could prevent a wildcard import is
if package caching is disabled (with -Dpython.cachedir.skip=true or
similar). The real solution is to not do wildcard imports with Java
packages in the first place.

This is also a good point and the only other thing I can think of that might be preventing you other than this is the cache dir isn't created or you don't have the permissions at the file system level to create it (which might cause a more obvious error).
