Thanks for the feedback Josh,
I looked at PyDev and a few others - most were designed as full blown IDEs or plug-ins exclusive to Eclipse or NetBeans.  I wanted a simple Swing text editor component with Jython syntax highlighting. I have found  which works incredibly well for my design constraints.  Its very well made with great examples.  I now have it working in my project (  I can now code in Jython in an embedded text editor in my app.. just need to implement some of the bells & whistles - saving files, loading files etc..

Thanks again - hopefully replying with this info might help others in the same situation.

There is no Jython aware swing component contained within the Jython jar.  You may want to take a look at some of the IDEs that are available and offer Jython support.  Perhaps you will find something there that may help you out.  Specifically, you may wish to look a the code available for the open source Field project.

Good luck, and hope this helps!

Hello Jython Users !
I'm very new to Jython, but have successfully executed a few scripts in a small swing application.  The swing application has currently a JEditPane.  In order to do syntax high-lighting in my Java application I would need to write a JythonEditorKit and supporting classes.

I would think that the idea of embedding a small Jython aware editor in a Java app would be a very common thing, and it has been done many times before.  Unfortunately, my Google-Fu appears to have failed me, and I can not find an example of such a thing.

Does the Jython Jar have a Jython aware (syntax high-lighting etc) swing component in it ?

And ideas or suggestions welcome.
Thanks !
