    $ jython --verify

jython --verify does allow jython to start, but it does not seem to
have readline support; arrows and standard shortcut keys give the same
^[junk that they give when readline is not enabled in the registry.
I have just tested the 2nd beta, jython starts properly (--verify is now enabled by default), and history works properly for me.
