I am interested in using Wordnet synsets as conceptual clusters, where I can have my software "remember" which synset is associated with which concept. What would be the recommended way to do this? I see that many elements have a getKey() method, but I don't see how to use the Key for anything other than differentiating between synsets. And what kind of compatibility can I expect as Wordnet itself undergoes new revisions?

In a nutshell, is there some unique and permanent identifier for a synset that i can put in a database or index so that the same synset can be retrieved later?

Thanks for any help or advice.

      Harry,

I believe the synset offset is the only reliable way to uniquely identify a synset (i.e. Synset::getOffset())

I think that synset offsets are preserved between different versions though I might be wrong here...
