I get a NullPointerException from a recently (2 days old) deployed jwma (standard HEAD version from CVS) when I click login without entering a username while testing the deployment. I expected to get an Authentication Failed message as when an unrecognized username is entered. All the obvious functions seem to work as declared when the login username has a value entered.  See below:

    java.lang.NullPointerException
    java.lang.StringBuffer.<init>(StringBuffer.java:104)
    dtw.webmail.JwmaSession.getUserIdentity(JwmaSession.java:633)
    dtw.webmail.JwmaController.doLogin(JwmaController.java:513)
    dtw.webmail.JwmaController.doDispatchSessionActions(JwmaController.java:238)
    dtw.webmail.JwmaController.service(JwmaController.java:151)
    javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:802)

I notice that the username is initialized to null when declared in the login.jsp, so I initialized it to “z”, but I still get the exception.  I have configuration.xml configured for my IMAP server.

Any known fixes or research suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Mentee

Yes: please try the HEAD from jwma-scratch.

With the software ComponentSoftware RCS (CS-RCS),  I tried to get it from the repository using the commands

      cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.jwma.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/jwma login
      cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.jwma.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/jwma co jwma-scratch

as you suggested to nurularesya on 2005-09-11 at 22:20 but firewalls and proxy servers are obstacles. I always time out.

I am currently consulting with my ISP/network administrator as recommended by the link

      http://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?group_id=1&docid=29894#connection

you gave to "pr144" on 2005-10-22 at 18:15.

Do you know of any other workaround that I could try?

      Regards,
      Mentee
