After installing Jvi in NetBeans 8.2, I got the following error when
starting NetBeans:

*WARNING [org.netbeans.core.modules]: had to upgrade dependencies for
module com.raelity.jvi.uc.nb70: added = [module org.openide.util.ui >
9.3]
removed = []; details: [#243100: Separate desk*top-independent
utilities]

Does anyone know what went wrong here? I tried both Debian and MacOS but
got no luck on neither platform.

That's a warning not an error. What doesn't work?

The plugin simply does not work at all... There is no Vi behavior nor any Jvi options available. However, it is shown as being active in the plugin list.

Did you look through the log file, <userdir>/var/log/messages.log, and see if there are any jvi related exceptions?

What version is shown for "jVi for NetBeans" in Menu>Tools>Plugins>Installed?

    How did you install jVi?

Note that NB 8.2 has been around for a while. Many people are using jVi with it.

Yes, I looked into the log file, and the original post is pretty much everything related to jvi. The version number there is 1.2. I installed jvi through the plugin manager in NetBeans.

Version 1.2 is the number of the jVi Update Center. After installing the update center, did you install jVi? The number I'm requesting is the version of the "jVi for NetBeans" module. Could you start NetBeans and then attach messages.log. To keep the size of the log down, take the log as soon as NB is running not after NB has been running for a long time.

Ah, sorry, now I realize what went wrong -- I need to install jvi after installing the update center. However, click on "check on newest" always shows "Unable to connect to the jVi (vi/vim) for NetBeans 7.0 because of Received fatal alert: handshake_failure"

Could this be a proxy config problem? There might be more info in the messages.log.

You can also install jVi manually, at https://sourceforge.net/projects/jvi/files/jVi-for-NetBeans/NetBeans-7.0 there is nbvi-1.5.4.zip.

I've attached the log file... I don't think it's the proxy issue, since I've disabled proxy in NetBeans completely...

Notice that it is accessing a URL on sourceforge. It works for me. Try the manual install.

I confirm issues with the jVi update center. The connection with sourceforge doesn't work. I tried from different networks.

I finally installed jvi manuall. I also had to disable the jvi update center. Each time I generally checked for new updates I got the error message of the failed connection to sourceforge.

Do you have any ideas on when the update center issue appeared? In particular, I'm wondering if it started with a particular release of some NetBeans module.

On my system, an up to date Win7, the Sourceforge handshake currently works with NB 8.1, currently fails with 8.2. NB 8.2 used work.

Does this fail/work on unix/linux based systems?

    Mac Os Sierra 10.12.6
    NetBeans IDE 8.2 (Build 201609270201)
    Jvi 1.5.49.31

I am new with netbeans, so I can't give a history. I'm sorry. The discovery of Jvi was the prerequest to use netbeans at all. I just can't work without vim mode.

My testing system is Debian. As you see, it didn't work.

This is the error I got:

INFO [org.netbeans.modules.autoupdate.updateprovider.DownloadListener]: Reading URL http://sourceforge.net/projects/jvi/files/jVi-for-NetBeans/NetBeans-7.0/UC/catalog.xml.gz failed (javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: Received fatal alert: handshake_failure)

I tried to reproduce the error message, but get a different result now, still not satisfying.

First I tried to purge the Jvi stuff:

    1. I uninstalled the update center.
    2. I removed the manually installed modules.
    3. I restarted the IDE.

    Trying the regular procedure:

    1. I installed and activated the update center.
    2. Restarted the IDE.
    3. Click check for updates.

No result. I neither get an error message, nor are the jvi components downloaded.

I guess there are traces of the previous installation somewhere in the configurations, that cause this changed behaviour.

I will do the manual installation again.
