A quick update for everyone. The last release of JVending was May 20th and
we will be doing a major release sometime this month. It will include
1) SOAP interface for stocking
2) A cleanup and refactoring of the repository
3) MIDP adapter support
4) JSR 124 implementation is more complete (but we still have a lot to
5) MMS send functionality on the client
Two primary goals moving forward are 1) to get the discovery and admin
components built; and 2) to get MMS server provisioning built and integrated
with the client. We have enough of the core completed, so I will formalize
the software process and kick start the project next week. I will be
assuming an architect/project lead role, but still involved in development,
particularly on the JSR 124 implementation. The rest of the time I will
spend as an admin. This will leave me with more time to deal with everyone
on an individual basis. I am going to be dividing the development into
client and server side. The server side will further be broken into
front-end and core development groups.
Go to http://sourceforge.net/people/?group_id=102914 for a list of positions
that I recently posted. If anyone wants to apply for a particular position
or to take up some responsibility that I have not listed, send me an e-mail.
I need to get a lineup of who is still interested in the project. What
would help me in assigning roles was if you included the following
1) Skill level, areas of expertise.
2) Time that you would be able to commit to the project
3) Area of interest in the project
Make sure that you join the development and user mailing lists. I will be
sending out future announcements through these lists.
Special thanks to Rashmi Jain, who has been working on the project since its
launch. He has done excellent work on the stocking component and is now
working on the MMS client. He will be assuming a lead role for development,
so please CC him on any technical questions. Also thanks to June Bicknese
for prototyping the html user interface for the stocking of content. I would
also like to mention that we have two new developers that will be joining
us. The first is Bennett Neale, who will be doing some Struts work, as well
as core development. Second is Ahmed Fayed, who will be working on the
front-end implementation as a Struts developer.
