prf - a simple framework for running diagnostics on a remote node
imagine this scenario; there is an embedded erlang node, the
target. you cannot put files (e.g. beam files) on the computer it runs
on. you can connect to it through erlang distribution. you want to run
diagnostics tools, maybe tracing. you want those tools to reconnect if
the target restarts.
enter prf. a simple client-server design, where the server runs on
the target. both the server and the client has callback modules
(collectors and consumers, respectively).
when starting a client, one specifies the target and the
consumer. an attribute of a consumer is which collectors it is
associated with. if there is no server on the target, it is
started. there are currently 2 collectors implemented, prfSys (system
info) and prfPrc (process info).
every 2 seconds the server checks how many clients each collector
has. if it's more than 0 the server will call the collector and send
the collector output to each client. otherwise it'll do nothing.
if the server exits, or the target goes down, the client will
periodically try to retstart the server.
if the client goes down, all associated servers will remove it from
their client list.
