3rd Generation Jukebox to be released any time now

Well, I hate to release things. However, I have realized that the project has been successfully used as a framework for many other projects, without major problems (well, at least configuration, semaphores, services and logging). So it is time to pack the new release - 3.0p0. Keep looking, it will be there soon. So far, just go get it from the CVS.

Ant build is back

From 3.0p0, the build is based on Ant with a small autoconf wrapper (which is soon to become optional).

Next generation

Changes:

- The log model has changed, awaiting further
clarification when the Java Logging API gets
finalized.

- The event notification model for the service has
changed: now, the shutdown() gets the exception
that caused the service to terminate in the
first place, so it is possible to take
corrective actions.

- All the obsolete stuff is left out and will be
re-added on as needed basis.

So far, the status of the new distribution is decided to be "alpha", though it's being used in production for in-house projects and getting quickly stabilized.... read more

2.0p5 is out, with JMX support

There are two components supporting the JMX: the log producer (JmxSyslog) and ApplicationWrapper. The rest of the stuff, the log consumers in particular, will go to 2.0p6, after the JMX public release, when some JMX specification problems (both concept and implementation) will be fixed.

Cygwin: reality check

Oh well, I knew there's a good reason I don't like Windows ;)

Cygwin is much more picky than any Solaris box has ever been, and there's a lot of things in strange places, lots of things missing altogether, so making the autoconf/automake build work under Cygwin was a challenge.

As a result, the configuration/build is much more robust now, and as a side effect, I have proof that it was possible to make it work under Cygwin, though painful, still quite doable.... read more

Relocation

SourceForge is a new home for Jukebox. For a while (until I figure out all the kinks) things may be a little bit messy. Let me know if there's anything I've missed.

CVS will be taken care of as soon as possible.
