This is a very good idea. I'd propose that Leonardo join the JTestcase developer group, as soon as possible, if everybody agrees. I'd like to give any help i can to help realize your ideas. Two notes: 1)the forthcoming (in a few days) new release of jtestcase has some api changes in it. you can take a look at http://jtestcase.sourceforge.net/preview/index.html. this is also the cvs head version. please refer to that api for any implemetation. 2) do you know dbunit ? it is a testing framework for relational databases integrated in junit. maybe you can consider to also use some of its functions to implement your solution. Hi all, I've been restyling the index page for the upcoming 3.1.0 you can find a preview in http://www.inera.it/~fausto/jtestcase/index.html. The new index page is aimed to get the developer vising the site a more immediate impression of how the tool works. The content of the pages will surely be subjected to change. Hi all,
I'd like to make a example showing why MultiKey Hashtable can be dangerous.
Suppose you have this xml data :
<tests>
<class name="Mytestclass">
<method name="Mytestmethod">
<test-case name="Mytestcase">
<params> <param name="aparam" type="int" >1</param></params>
<params> <param name="aparam2" type="int" >2</param></params>
<asserts> <assert name="result" type="int"
action="EQUALS">3</assert></asserts>
</test-case>
</method>
</class>
</tests>
just by looking at the xml, you might expect that result will be tested to
be an int of value 3.
right? that's what really happens using assertTestCase().
But now let's see what may happen if you use MultiKeyHashtable:
MultiKeyHashtable asserts = getTestCaseAssertValues();
int result = assert.get("result");
/* now the important line */
result = - result
/* in our case , result will be -3 ! */
assert(result == 3);
Your now asserting that the result is equal to -3 and not to 3, but the xml
you
read before really gives is DECIEVING. You get the idea !
Ok, so in a next post i'll explain how using a new tag <assertparam> and
changing the behaivoir of getTestCaseAssertValues() can cope with this
situation.
Bye,
Fausto

Hi all,
as Manish and I noted, the xml parsing of data file is unperfect
and problably needs to be reimplemented. (there will be
more specific posting on the subject).
I'd like to take this occasion to propose a new package arrangement
that will take place with version 3.1.0
the new package schema would be :
org.jtestcase
-> JTestCase
-> TestCaseInstance
-> core
-> types (actual types package)
-> model (renaming of old digester)
-> assert (refactoring of jtestcase class)
-> util
-> MultiKeyHashtable

Hi all,
I committed the new api feature <assertparam>.
in the test directory there is a new GetAssertParamTest.java
where you can find a sample usage of the tag.
So now there is :
1) deprecation of old method getAssertValues
2) new method getAssertParam()
I'd like to take this occasion to propose a new package
organization to go with release 3.1.0:
org.jtestcase
-> JTestCase
-> TestCase
-> core
-> types
-> model (renaming of old package digester)
-> assert (coming from refactoring of JTestCase class)
-> util
-> MultKeyHashtable
Bye
Fausto

Hi All, after some musing about the 3.1.0 API, I came to the following conclusion: As you can see in the site http://jtestcase.sourceforge.net/doassertions.html there are two way of asserting in jtestcase. One is pulling the asserting parameters with MultiKeyedHashtable, the other is assert using assertTestCase(). The problem with this approach is that in the xml file is not clear if you are using the asserts for asserting (AS THE XML FILE HINTS YOU) or for use as parameters (AND USE COSTUMAZED ASSERT IN THE JAVA FILE). This I think is a potential source for problem. (I've evidence of this). My solution would be: Define a new tag <assertparam>, this tag are assert parameters and retrievable with MultiKeyHashtable and NOT be assertable with assertTestCase(). The tag <assert> would be assertable with assertTestCase() and NOT retrievable with getAssertValues() What do you think ? Hi all, after some briefing with testgen4j team, expecially with Manish, we concluded that the api I outlined in this post http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=8225762&forum_id=10168 is well suited also for test generation. Therefore I will schedule a new JTestCase release for this Friday. Since it has some new API, the first minor number will jump to 1, so the release numbering would be 3.1.0. As explained in the previous post, the old API will be retained and will be still working, although deprecated. Manish and I are also working on a migration step by step guide. Let me know what you think. Fausto. _________________________________________________________________ Personalizza MSN Messenger con sfondi e fotografie! http://www.ilovemessenger.msn.it/ |

Hello All, A couple of days ago, I downloaded JTestCase-3.0.1 and certainly it looks more promising and stable with the Digester package in there. I was looking for some sample tests in the package as 2.2.0 version had. Anyway I modified the tests from the 2.2.0 version to suit the 3.0.1 version, namely calling the TestCaseInstance methods in the test code etc, although I couldn't make it work, tried a lot and I am sure I am doing something wrong. I am attaching a .tar.gz file that contains the test case example along with the data file directly inherited from the 2.2.0 version. I am sorry SF.net didn't allow me to send .zip file Any insights in what wrong am I doing would be highly appreciated!! Thank You -Manish |

Hi all,
The following issues remain to be addressed before the plugin is released,
for each i will present an overwiew and how i 'm thinking to cope.
The plugin released is then delayed.
I'll try to keep the group updated on those issues.
Any proposal is obviusly appreciated.
1) cvs is ahead of current release 3.0.1.
in particular, cvs version allows to use NULL values for param.
this release is also used by the plugin.
so maybe we can release 3.0.2. I know now how to release,
i just need some help in regeneration site documentation.
2) need to find a place on the site di store references to
jtestcase2.xsd ( now http://www.inera.it/~fausto/dtd/jtestcase2.xsd)
is available, but this is far from ideal. Nonetheless, it works and
maybe kept on a pro-tempore basis.
3) jtestgen4j and jtestcase.jtest4gen are unaligned. Manish and I are
discussing if and how alignment will take place before plugin release
0.1.0.
the question is likely to be settled in a few days.
greetings,
Fausto

Hi. can we place jtestcase.xsd (and jtestcase2.xsd) in jtestcase site, so that it is reachable from an url like http://jtestcase.sourceforge.net/dtd/jtestcase2.xsd ? that would permit to have validation for the test cases without the user need to worry about filesystem issue. and would all the users could refer to a single document. I see this approach is taken by most tools. What do you think ? To do that it is needed to set some additional properties in a local build.properties file (including username and password to shell.sourceforge.net). I think the easiest way for you is to notify me if you're ready. Christian |

Hi,
I'd like to add links to the Jtestcase plugin in the jtestcase home html
file in the cvs.
2 questions:
1) I think the best way to do it is
to put another node in the sidebar under the Documentation Node.
The node could be named Eclipse Plugin and have a couple of
sublinks to Plugin overview page in www.inera.it/~fausto (this is a
temporary place as i said before) and perhaps Generation overview.
What do you think ?
2) If I modify the xdoc file in the cvs and then commit, the changes would
be immediately
visible on the site ? (because the new links should be made visible only
after plugin release,of course :)
Greetings,
Fausto

Of course this is possible, but i think i don't like that. The index page should be not overloaded with information from old releases, i think. On the other hand the news section gives us the possibility to put here whatever new information we want to give to the users, e.g. release notes of the plugin. Christian |

Hi all. I think JTestCase plugin is finally ready for first alpha-release. I was thinking about releasing it next monday. The documentation is found at http://www.inera.it/~fausto. This site is totally temporary and will be replaced soon, possibly in the jtestcase site itself. By now, I wonder if it will be possible to add a link in the jtestcase site to the JTestCasePlugin home page (and maybe some screenshots too). This release will be based on the latest jtestcase release (3.0.1) and testgen4j release (1.0.2). In both cases, i used a slightly modified version of the code, which i think will be fed back in the next future releases of these tools. Any feedback is more than appreciated. Cheers, Fausto _________________________________________________________________ Personalizza MSN Messenger con sfondi e fotografie! http://www.ilovemessenger.msn.it/ |
