I'm not sure it's what you"re talking about but I remember had done a MIDI layer for OSX a long time ago because JSYnthLib didn't work on OSX at this time.
It was direct calls to the Java OSX MIDI API.
I don't know if the code still exists.
As I think Java is no more maintained by Apple, I think my old code is useless anyway.

I think this would be very useful - I'm pretty sure that noone has done
this already.
