Now, having said that, the one reason for us to consolidate formats is this: Back when the XML-driver idea was porposed two years ago, one of the benefits mentioned was that, if it was flexible enough and got popular enough, there'd be the posibility that manufacturers would provide XML editor descriptions themselves. As things stand now, a company like Roland isn't going to spend the resources to provide drivers for a new synth for MidiQuest, UniSyn, SoundDiver, JSL, SynthEd, etc, because it's too much work. However, if they could provide a single file and have support for the synth on a variety of editors, then they just might do it. - Joe |
