I'm not necessarily saying that we need to change the old drivers. I'm 
saying that we ought to put common checksum methods in a central class 
so that future non-XML drivers can use it. I felt that this would also 
benefit the XML driver, since authors could write something like 
<Checksum type="ROLAND_COMMON" />
