Some platforms support using the IR device like a COM
port, however others (particularily Windows 2000 and
XP) do not. We need a transport for IR-based
synchronization written for such platforms.

We may be able to use a Java specific IR API, such as
this one from HP
(http://www.hpl.hp.com/personal/Jean_Tourrilhes/IrDA/Java.html).
