Hi everybody!
Well, my first act as list moderator was to add everyone to the wrong
list. not exactly a good way to start but hopefully things can only get
better from there! Actually, I suppose everyone being subscribed to the
users-list isn't such a bad idea either. Of course, if you don't want to
be subscribed to one (or both) of these lists you can always unsubscribe
yourself.
So, I've added about 30 people to this list, and I'm not quite sure who
all still wants to be part of this project, but hopefully we'll weed out
the "wanna-be's" quickly and get down to some work.
I've said this to everyone before but I'll say it once more for
prosperity... if you have not already done so, please read the docs on
the website (and by this I mean the API docs, the little bit about our
design goals, ect.) and download the latest version of jspShop and just
have a look through the source. You don't necessarily need to install it
but if you want to and you are successful, all the better for you! If
you wanted to install it but didn't know where to start... help is on
the way. We have a few people working on documentation already.
We (and by 'we' I mean Jeff and myself) are mostly done the next version
(1.1a) which will include a (hopefully) working shop, minus admin
functions (besides the class/object browser) and without any sort of
credit card gateway. From then on, we are going to need development
effort in these areas:
Installation: It would be really nice if someone could figure out some
sort of easy install mechanism. I'm not even sure exactly what we could
do, but I'm open to suggestions. I think it would have to be something
written in java, I can't see it working any other way as it should be
cross-platform.
Ports: Some work needs to be done to make jspShop work on all sorts of
flavors of popular platforms/servers/databases. We've focused on
Linux/Orion/Postgres so far but there are many other combinations to
work on.
Debugging: Someone needs to have a look through / try out the codebase
we have already and look for bugs. I'm sure we've left some in there
somewhere.
Other: Something else on your mind that I'm not thinking of? Bring it up
to this list.
If you have any other ideas, suggestions, feature ideas, whatever, bring
it up to this list and will discuss it. I really want to get some good
dialog going, so don't hold back if you want to say something.
Have a good weekend,
Darryl
