I'm asking everyone I know to help us out by testing the site and letting me know of any bugs you find. Try absolutely everything you can, if you break something you don't have to feel bad about it, in fact I really want people to break things so that we can fix them. Not all the products are entered so don't comment on some categories being empty. Aside from that I think it's all good to go. If you want to help us out, (which would eventually help you out if you want to use jspShop), go to http://www.submersion.com and just play around. Make accounts, add things in your cart, all that fun stuff. Don't worry, you won't actually be ordering anything as the real time credit card processing is in TEST mode, which means nothing will be processed. If you don't want to use your real credit card number, something like 5900 0000 0000 0000 will work just fine. If you find a bug, I would really appreciate it if you add it to our bug database. You go to http://bugs.submersion.com and login with a login of "Guest" and a password of "bugs". (I think it's case sensitive, so capital G on Guest and bugs all lowercase). Then you look through the current bugs and if the one you found isn't listed, add a new one. Or, if you aren't comfortable with that, just email me with exactly what the bug is and how to reproduce it. Thank you very much and happy holidays everyone, Darryl Bleau |

Ahhh.. I gotcha :P For some reason I thought you were gonna refresh all the code in CVS, np. I noticed you made a make2.bat, I actually don't use that .bat file anymore :P. Make sure you have the j2eesdk installed, and in your classpath. And you depending where you're trying to compile from, you may need the fully distinguished path to the jspShop.jar file. If you're still having problems, I'll take a few minutes and write out an example for ya. > I've posted the following message on the forum, but I'm sending it out > as well as people haven't started using the forum (yet). > > > I'm trying to build an ejb client and I am getting a "cannot resolve > symbol" message when I try to import Class and ClassHome even though I > have 'bins/jspShop.jar' in my class path. I've posted the following message on the forum, but I'm sending it out as well as people haven't started using the forum (yet). I'm trying to build an ejb client and I am getting a "cannot resolve symbol" message when I try to import Class and ClassHome even though I have 'bins/jspShop.jar' in my class path. Has any one built a client yet? If so, could you post an example? Thanks, John |

Gareth, Not sure how this works, but some of the versioning numbers on the cvs repository weren't updated properly? build.xml is still 1.1.1.1 it should have a newer number? maybe I'm on drugs :P I should really take a day and figure out the ins and outs of CVS |

Both are. To tell ya the truth, I'm useless with CVS. (Been to busy working on other stuff to take the 4 or 5 hours to really get to know it). Meanwhile, our efforts have shifted from porting to JBoss to continuing on with the release for beta. (So moving from porting to adding features). Darryl -----Original Message----- From: jsp...@li... Subject: [Jspshop-devel] JBoss + Tomcat / Jetty We've been busy getting jspShop working with JBoss. After getting the developer release working (tomcat's jasper compiler is *super* picky with taglibs), and doing some testing, We're finding that JBoss is about 3times SLOWER than OrionServer. I'm not totally familiar with JBoss, but I think I have everything tuned and set up the way it should be. What I would like someone to do is to take the developer release and make it run fast on JBoss. I'll be submitting the code base to Sourceforge sometime later tonight. But as far as I can tell, it works with JBoss. It's just *slow*. So if you know yer JBoss, get the source later tonight and make it fly. |

I will be putting up a new release right away that will be pre-setup for deployment on JBoss + Tomcat 4.0. (Hopefully by tomorrow night, it's taking me a little while, as the J2EE server I'm using is a whole lot more lenient than JBoss (which is a bad thing)) When that is done, more people should be able to deploy the admin interface and play with it. I've also worked on totally completing the build.xml file. When the new release is released, I wouldn't mind someone to go through that and fix any newbieness that's in there. (First time we've worked with ant :) The actual shop front-end is near completion, I'm hoping sometime next Wednesday for our internal version and another week for the Grocerama mockup. |

Hey! Are you all dead out there or what? In the spirit of trying to get some discussion going on. I'm asking everyone to make a list of features they'd like to see and send it to the list. Any sort of functionality that you would like to see out of jspShop, let everyone know. Do you want. sortable product searches? Sales reports? Automated Specials? Anything at all... let's get some ideas thrown around here. Also, nobody responded to what sort of a role they would like to play in developing jspShop. even if you've already mentioned to me what you'd like to be doing it might still be nice if you would just post to the list a short blurb about who you are and what you want to do. You know, just so we all get to know each other. (No group hugs though, I promise). Additionally, I'm assuming that everyone who has not removed themselves from this list are wanting to be an active participant in the development of jspShop. If not, that's fine, you can lurk on here and hear all about our trade secrets (just kidding). Otherwise, I think everyone on this list said they wanted to help so I'm going to hold you all to it! (Again... just kidding.) Ok, so I think that's about it. Don't be shy! Post away! Darryl. Just in case you aren't too sure how to post. simply send your email to this address: jsp...@li... |

Got it, just cleaned out the deployment directory, and actually got the whole thing deployed. Now I have to fix the tld's in all my tags as it's having problems with it. Hi everybody! Well, my first act as list moderator was to add everyone to the wrong list. not exactly a good way to start but hopefully things can only get better from there! Actually, I suppose everyone being subscribed to the users-list isn't such a bad idea either. Of course, if you don't want to be subscribed to one (or both) of these lists you can always unsubscribe yourself. So, I've added about 30 people to this list, and I'm not quite sure who all still wants to be part of this project, but hopefully we'll weed out the "wanna-be's" quickly and get down to some work. I've said this to everyone before but I'll say it once more for prosperity... if you have not already done so, please read the docs on the website (and by this I mean the API docs, the little bit about our design goals, ect.) and download the latest version of jspShop and just have a look through the source. You don't necessarily need to install it but if you want to and you are successful, all the better for you! If you wanted to install it but didn't know where to start... help is on the way. We have a few people working on documentation already. We (and by 'we' I mean Jeff and myself) are mostly done the next version (1.1a) which will include a (hopefully) working shop, minus admin functions (besides the class/object browser) and without any sort of credit card gateway. From then on, we are going to need development effort in these areas: Installation: It would be really nice if someone could figure out some sort of easy install mechanism. I'm not even sure exactly what we could do, but I'm open to suggestions. I think it would have to be something written in java, I can't see it working any other way as it should be cross-platform. Ports: Some work needs to be done to make jspShop work on all sorts of flavors of popular platforms/servers/databases. We've focused on Linux/Orion/Postgres so far but there are many other combinations to work on. Debugging: Someone needs to have a look through / try out the codebase we have already and look for bugs. I'm sure we've left some in there somewhere. Other: Something else on your mind that I'm not thinking of? Bring it up to this list. If you have any other ideas, suggestions, feature ideas, whatever, bring it up to this list and will discuss it. I really want to get some good dialog going, so don't hold back if you want to say something. Have a good weekend, Darryl |
