I skirted around the issue by doing the following:
new JsonSlurper().parseText( DefaultGroovyMethods.getText( reader ) )
since that's basically what you're doing anyway :)
I should mention that StringBuilder should be (a little) faster than
StringBuffer too since it's not synchronized. You don't need the
thread-safe implementation there because it's a method-scoped field.
Or... I guess you need to use it for backwards-compatibility since
StringBuilder was introduced in 1.5... right?
