I remember seeing a post that in JScheme, 08 is parsed as octal and that the 8 would raise an exception. Later, I was browing r5rs (and found identical text in r4rs), which says that (08 13) is an equivalent representation for the list (8 13). http://www.swiss.ai.mit.edu/~jaffer/r4rs_5.html#SEC21 Maybe an octal number in JScheme should just use #o ?
