Project Goal

mithryn

Similar to tools such as MapTool and the newer roll20, RPGTable is a Table Top Role-Playing-Game tool agnostic to whichever system you use, whether you play D&D (any edition), Pathfinder, Shadowrun, GURPS, etc. The aim is to allow friends to play any RPG they wish, regardless of where they live. This program is meant as a tool for communication, it will not enforce rules. It is still up to the players and DM to ensure that everyone is playing correctly.

The program will be split into two parts, the client and the server. The server need not be present on the same LAN as the clients, but must be IPv4 addressable. The client is needed for each player, and will be the window by which they interact with their fellow players. Players will be able to chat among one another, in addition to the DM and publicly. There will be a grid that shows the location of the players, as well as anything else the DM may want the players to see. The DM will have additional controls with regards to moving, but players will be limited to only their own pieces.

The client and server will be written in Java, and the UI will utilize JavaFX2.x.
