Hi John, Thanks for your interest. Unfortunately jRate is no longer actively maintained. I haven't tried it for a few years, but as it's based on GCC 3.x, I'm not surprised that there are problems building on modern setups. That said, I'm surprised it failed *after* bootstrap, but your attachment didn't come through, so I haven't any idea what might have gone wrong. I attempted to build JRate as described in INSTALL with a local copy of gcc-3.3.3. The build failed after the gcc bootstrap. I have attached the output containing the error I am building on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Any ideas? thanks john nworbnhoj www.nhoj.info |

Matias, Have you unpacked the GCC 3.3.3 sources in the top-level directory under "gcc" ? It looks as though it is having difficulty finding the GCC sources (they are not packaged with jRate and should be untarred manually). Hi Matias, Curious, it looks as though the configure script cannot find gcc or g++! These are installed in /usr/bin on your host, correct? And they are executable (i.e., they dynamically link, they are for the right architecture...)? Also, this is when you try to ..../configure jRate, not a configure step after you type "make" ? Hi there, By comparing the GCC 4x to 3x, you can find there are dramatic changes to the autoconf and automake process. So I cetainly believe that some patches of jRate 3.7.0-3.3.3 cannot be applied to GCC 4.x. Or it is possible but requiring deep undertanding of how gcc works. Is there any brief intro of how the jRate patches works. Especially how does jRate integrate with the GCC compiling process. Many thanks. =^D=^D Charlie Lin -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Porting-jRate-to-GCC-4.4.0-tp24523367p24523367.html Sent from the jrate-devel mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

Now, if you refer to the run-time checks that are needed in order to ensure the referential integrity then that is a direct extension of the GCC front-end + GCC runtime for Java. I can't recall the exact name, but I believe it should be something like Jv_write_barrier(). In any case if you search this in the jRate patches you should easily find it. HTH. Hi I just need to know how and in which file(s) exactly does the jrate allocates the static objects in immortal memory, i.e. how jrate differentiate between allocating objects referenced by the static variable and objects referenced by instance variables. e.g. class xx { static cls ref1; cls ref2; public void sommethod() { ref1=new cls(...);//in immortal ref2=new cls(...);//in current memory area context of the current thread } } cheers Mohammed -- Mohammed Fathi ALRahmawy PhD Research Student Realtime Research Group University of York |

Hi Angelo and Abdul, Right, we never did any work on 64-bit. However, I think I've since tried jRate on amd64 without serious difficulty (at least of this sort). Still, with the kind of hardware-specific tricks we play for embedded ia32 and ppc, I'm not surprised if we'd have to reengineer a few things for amd64. If the need for multilib was detected when jRate was configured, you have 32-bit jRate libraries. You can then try compiling HelloWorld.java with "jRate-gcj -m32 ..." and see if that solves the segfault problem. Otherwise, I can recommend recompiling all of jRate binaries and libraries for 32-bit (with CFLAGS=-m32 at jRate configure time) and seeing if that works. Hi, jRate-0.7.2-3.3.3 is installed but it gives a segmentation error in all programs. It is running on x86_64(AMD Opteron which has 4x4=16 cores). /(gdb) r Starting program: /home/haseeb/dev/jrate/jrate-0.3.7-5/jrate-0.3.7.2-3.3.3/demos/HelloWorld/a.out [Thread debugging using libthread_db enabled] Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. 0x00007ffff75c11d9 in _Jv_RegisterClassHookDefault (klass=0x7ffff7a98020) at /home/haseeb/dev/jrate/jrate-0.3.7-5/jrate-0.3.7.2-3.3.3/gcc/libjava/java/lang/natClassLoader.cc:357 357 jint hash = HASH_UTF (klass->name); Current language: auto; currently c++ (gdb) display klass->name 1: klass->name = (_Jv_Utf8Const *) 0x11 / Cheers Haseeb |

If you run "file ..../libstdc++.so" what do you get? Is it a 32-bit object? Or a libtool stub? Morgan -- Morgan Deters md...@gm... |

Hi, I am building jRate-0.7.2-3.3.3 on ubuntu 64 bit running on AMD64. GCC-3.3.3 builds without any problem if build separately, but when I try to build it with jrate the linker gives an error. The --diasable-multilib option doesn't seem to work when the jRate patch is applied to gcc. The configure command that I give is as following: 1. root@haseeb:/opt/jrate/jrate-0.3.7.2-3.3.3# CC="/opt/gcc-3.3.3/bin/gcc" ./configure --enable-languages=c,c++,java --prefix=/opt/jrate/gcc --disable-multilib --enable-threads=posix --build=x86_64-linux-gnu --host=x86_64-linux-gnu --target=x86_64-linux-gnu 2. make gives an error /opt/jrate/jrate-0.3.7.2-3.3.3/gcc-build/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++-v3/src/.libs/libstdc++.so: could not read symbols: File in wrong format collect2: ld returned 1 exit status I will really appreciate any kind of help. Cheers Haseeb |

Hi Haseeb, Sadly, no. It's been on the shortlist of things to implement, but as you can see on sourceforge, it's been that way for some time.. Hi, Have you guys implemented the processing groups parameters in jrate in any sub-version??? I just wanted to avoid going through all the subversions, any help will be really appreciated. Thanks Haseeb |

Haseeb, There is some work in there on the physical memory classes, but I don't recall how complete, tested, and/or standards-compliant it is. You'll probably want to check out the most recent Subversion rather than one of the releases. jRate development isn't currently ongoing because we have no grant to work on it (nor grants for projects that depend on it, which have motivated many improvements in the past) and we have moved on to other projects. Hi, There hasnt been much of an activity on the jRate website. I was wondering if development has stopped or are there plans for a new version release of jRate. I will be working on the physical memoy model of RTSJ and thought if you guys had done some sort of work on it. Cheers Haseeb |

Hi, I'm interested in using jrate in the QNX Neutrino RTOS. After using the configure script with the options ncpu=1, cpu-clock=893 (a very old machine) and pagesize=4096 the makefile was succesfully generated. I downloaded the required sources, but when i run make during gcc configuration i'm getting the following error: configure: error *** unable to determine the endianness Thanks Alex |
