app file reported as corrupt or tampered

    I've downloaded the .dmg file several times today. Each time I attempt to start the app, my system (OSX Mavericks) reports that it is damaged.

    I had this problem too, I discovered (for me at least) it was caused by Mac's gateKeeper, which prevents programs from running if they are not from a recognized source. Sometimes it gives a meaningful error message saying that is what happened, in this case it just says the app is corrupt. You can fix it by using:
    xattr -rc theAppThatWontRun.app

    I have tried to carry out an update for Password Safe from an email. Every time I try to run the file I am told to close Password Safe. I click Ok but there is no update carried out. Windows 8.1. Any ideas?
