Given our timeframe for the upcoming releases I will use your gui
component to be able to add this as fast as possible to Columba.

Yes, we should definitly go for little reusable components. The 
contact dialog ins't a very good example. I think having a
nice date-selector or a complete widget which lets me easily 
navigate through my whole calender is the way to go.
