Hey guys, I'm new at this linux stuff, I downloaded the boot loader and the image file, it boots into the basic linux environment.  How do i get it to boot up the full fledged linux distro.? gentoo, openEmbedded.. etc.. I don't know what NFS is, can anyone give me a quick rundown on how to get it started?

Any help would be greatly obliged.

    Thanks in advance!

      Hi Alex,

if you will take my old TAR.bz2 root filesystem
package and unpack it on a 128MB CF/PCMCIA
card you will get a 'usable' environment. I don't
know about gentoo, but you can reuse the
debian packages. Openembedded is not yet
jornada820-aware, but you can't solve this problem
      without knowing linux :)

      Oleg.

I used KNOPPIX to boot Linux from CD and then formatted a CF card and unpacked TAR.bz2. I had another card with the boot image and booted successfully. I then mounted the cf card I had built using KNOPPIX and then did "chroot /mnt/linux" which was successful.

I'm at the point of trying to get X running but out of the box, it just clears the screen and everything hangs. Any tips/tricks to get this going? I thought you might have it working to some degree.

If I can get this all working, I would be happy to create some useful step by step instructions.

        Thanks.

I have managed to get your old tarball file loaded. I was wondering, would you have any ideas n getting x-windows or a similar graphical interface running on the j820? To do so without outside help is beyond my capabilities, as I have limited programming skills, barely having started with c++ around a month ago...

      All help is appreciated
