Dear Joe, Since the last release of joe is about one year ago and a lot of people need utf8 support and it seems well supported, can you please release joe 2.9.9 so that distributions can pick up the greatly enhanced version? I use it for daily work and did not yet find any showstoppers. You can start adding new features afterward. That CVS joe supports utf8 is not well known (joe is on the list of the bad utf8 programs (freedesktop.org) and marked as hopeless) Christof |

I can start posting yum-able builds for Fedora Core 2 (test) on my people.redhat.com account should people want the latest-and-greatest for testing. Though, I won't be able to accept Bugzillas on it... Let me know if this is desirable. -- Lon --=20 Lon Hohberger Red Hat, Inc. --> http://www.redhat.com My Public Key --> http://people.redhat.com/lhh/pubkey.txt |

I use it for daily work and did not yet find any showstoppers. I will release some time this weekend- I have a very short list of remaining details to finish. This is a big release, so I'm going to call it Joe 3.0. I wanted more syntax files and hex edit mode, but you are right: these can wait. >That CVS joe supports utf8 is not well known (joe is on the list of the >bad utf8 programs (freedesktop.org) and marked as hopeless) I would like to educate them :-) Seriously, if there are any other places where an announcement should be made, please tell me about it. I don't know if any Linux distributions are nearing a release, but I'd sure like to get this new version in on time. I'd like to get Joe listed in Markus Kuhn's UTF-8 FAQ as being a UTF-8 capable editor. I wish cygwin would include Joe in their installer. |

Thank you all- It wouldn't have happened without everyone's continued interest in JOE. I promise to keep working on it. >Any volunteer to update the freshmeat.net record? Should I do it? Please do it. I'm going to post to comp.editors :-) |

In the mean time I also wrote a short article (in hungarian) to the Hungarian Unix Portal (hup.hu). And... I upgraded my main /usr/bin/joe to 3.0 so I'll use it every day and report everything I find. The first bug: the intro screen has (C) 2003 instead of 2004. And a stupid idea here: how about to use the unicode copyright symbol instead of (C) on unicode terminals? :) -- Egmont |
