Would it be possible to use the ".joe_state" file to keep track of the last line number you were on for a particular file before exiting? Perhaps by passing an option (say -remline) at startup, JOE would immediately jump to that line.

Yes, I was aware of this post. And it seemed clear that nobody had found a sensible way for providing this missing feature -- the proposed solution was (as its author admitted) rather cumbersome and had some serious flaws. That's why I chose to make an *explicit* request for this feature in future versions of JOE.
Sure it is.
But if you use the new `cancel' and `name' commands, it could be made much better, I'm just too lazy to do that.
