We have talked about moving joda-time to Apache before. I am now on the Jakarta PMC, and it is opening up a whole can of worms at present. Jakarta is in serious flux, and may not survive in its current form. Given that, do we want to move to Jakarta-commons now? The alternative is for me to get a joda-time domain from sourceforge (I got one for joda-primitives). At least the code would then be separate from the older properties code. And it doesn't prevent us moving to Apache later. Of course the plus points with jakarta-commons is a much greater exposure. Thoughts? Stephen |

What are your concerns with Jakarta? Why do you think it might go away? I think moving to jakarta-time would be the best. Keep it out of commons. Perhaps Jakarta-commons is merely suffering growing pains? If Jakarta isn't the best option, then joda-time is definitely much better than remaining just joda. By the way, what is joda? The FAQ says it means nothing. The 'j' gives me the impression that this is in fact an acronym. Stephen Colebourne wrote: >We have talked about moving joda-time to Apache before. Keep it out of > commons. Perhaps Jakarta-commons is merely suffering growing pains? Well, Jakarta is in the process of effectively breaking up (unless I'm mistaken). Its principal projects will become top level projects at Apache, like Ant and Maven already are. Thus adding something to the Jakarta level at the moment is almost certain to fail. Adding something to jakarta-commons could succeed because it would just be another project among many. But I would have to raise the licence transfer, which might get it spotted and blocked. > If Jakarta isn't the best option, then joda-time is definitely much > better than remaining just joda. > > By the way, what is joda? Its a short 'word' beiginning with 'j' which had a free domain name :-) Stephen > Stephen Colebourne wrote: > > >We have talked about moving joda-time to Apache before.
