I wanted to try to look into a bug / feature request on Joda-Time so I forked and then cloned the repo into eclipse on my local machine. When I attempt to run the DateTime tests (any of them that use DateTimeZone), I get the following error : java.io.IOException: Resource not found: "org/joda/time/tz/data/ZoneInfoMap" ClassLoader: sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader@1cd8f55c I get this error b/c there is no ZoneInfoMap off of the TLD of the project (there is one in: src/test/resources/tzdata/ZoneInfoMap). I see in the code I can set a system property to point to an appropriate directory but would like to understand if there's a more appropriate / cleaner way. Essentially, I want to be able to run all the DateTime unit tests (and see them pass) before I try to tackle this issue. Thx, ~Scott -- mailto:sc...@sc... |

Since time-zones are essentially just data passed in, there is no guarantee that the TZDB ones are actually loaded, so a constant may be misleading. Plus, there is no guarantee that TZDB might not just change all the IDs. Not having constants still seems like the right choice many years later. Hi, Is there a reason enums weren't created for the timezones? Although there is some flux to the underlying data, it seems that the String based identification invites the opportunity for typos and other errors for well known and established timezones. - steve |

There are no documents on the chronologies beyond the Javadocs, and the mechanism of the design is very complicated. The JSR-310 design is easier to extend, and threeten-extra is a possible project where a Persian calendar would be welcomed. I'm trying to implement Jalali/Persian Chronology. Unfortunately i couldn't find any solid documentation on chronologies. I have to go through every method on different chronologies to find what the input arguments and output should be. Is there any Documentation to explain chronologies in details? Does anyone implemented Persian chronology? any plan to add Persian chronology to Joda? |

Hello everybody! I have a problem which is puzzling me. Let' s say I have a localTime of DateTime type. Now I convert it with the method toDateTime or withZone to another Time Zone. I want to determine what the offset between the two Time Zones is (e.g. if localTime Zone is New York and convertedTime Zone is Rome I should get 6). I've tried to determine the Period between the two Objects, but, since the result of the conversion maintains the same milliseconds value of the first one, the result is "PT0S". Can anybody help me with this? Thank you guys for your attention! Have a great day. Guido |

Hey there, I just now discovered, the dateElementParser in ISODateTimeFormat allows for years, which are not composed of at least four digits. I do not have access to the ISO standard, but reading wikipedia (which might not be right) states: ISO 8601 prescribes, as a minimum, a four-digit year [YYYY] to avoid the year 2000 problem. Still, you can get a number like '5' parsed as a valid year. Likely being wildly wrong here, but I guess this is supposed to work like that? Is there an option to make it more strict and force people to write 0005 or am I better off implementing that myself? Thanks for any help and hints! --Alex |

Hi All, We are using joda-1.5.2. Recently for Israel Time zone changes I have updated the Asia tz file and created the jar file. After this we are unable to see Asia/Calcutta Time Zone when we are listing the time zones. I sent an email to tz team, they said that it is still there and it's an alias for Asia/Kolkata, and it still works. However we are unable to see Asia/Calcutta or Asia/Kolkata when listing the timezones. Could you please let us know what might be the problem? Thanks & Regards, Radhika Peddi|Avaya India Pvt. Hello, I've been musing for a few months on the idea of creating an Android-specific version of Joda-Time. The main impetus is that grabbing the TZ data out of the JAR causes serious memory issues on Android ( http://daniel-codes.blogspot.com/2013/08/joda-times-memory-issue-in-android.html), though while I'm at it I'm thinking of a few other tools that can be included for Android. I'm wondering what peoples' thoughts are regarding the feasibility of this project, especially maintainability of the Android version in relation to the main project. I want to know if this project seems like a Bad Idea or if there are some pitfalls I can avoid. Here's a list of goals I've written up: - Create joda time Android library which can be easily integrated with gradle-based Android build process. - Create Android Provider that uses /assets/ instead of the JAR for storing TZ data (to avoid memory leaks). I would set this as the default Provider (rather than ZoneInfoProvider). - Automatically compile TZ data as part of build process (i.e., can go from source to AAR binary). - Be able to update Android library along with new Joda-Time source without much fuss. I don't want to write a library based off of, say, 2.3 then never update it again. - (Optional) Implement Parcelable serialization for Joda-Time objects, so they can be easily passed between components in Android. It works well enough to call toString() and parse(), but some performance gains could be made through direct parcelling. - (Optional) Check for possible memory-intensive Objects and reduce usage (e.g., using one of Android's SparseArrays instead of HashMap). Not sure if this is necessary at all but if I'm already mucking around with things it might be good to check. Thoughts? Suggestions? Concerns? -Daniel |

You have to download the latest available tzdb file and then patch it for the Morocco change as per this http://mm.icann.org/pipermail/tz/2013-September/020402.html http://www.iana.org/time-zones Then recompile Joda-Time as per this: http://www.joda.org/joda-time/tz_update.html Stephen On 30 September 2013 10:27, Peter Taucher <p.t...@rb...> wrote: > Hi guys, > > > > It seems Morocco decided very last-minute to keep the summer time until > end of October (instead of ending it yesterday). > > > > Source(s): > > > http://www.maroc.gov.ma/fr/actualites/lhoraire-dete-gmt1-maintenu-jusquau-27-octobre-2013 > > http://www.timeanddate.com/news/time/morocco-ends-dst-2013.html > > > > What can we do to include this changes as fast as possible in our > application(s)? > > > > Bye, Peter > > > ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- > > Mit freundlichen Grüßen | Best regards | Cordialement | Atentamente > > > > Peter Taucher Software Engineer Office: Mobile: Fax: E-mail: > p.t...@rb... Hi guys, It seems Morocco decided very last-minute to keep the summer time until end of October (instead of ending it yesterday). Source(s): http://www.maroc.gov.ma/fr/actualites/lhoraire-dete-gmt1-maintenu-jusquau-27-octobre-2013 http://www.timeanddate.com/news/time/morocco-ends-dst-2013.html What can we do to include this changes as fast as possible in our application(s)? Actually I don't know, how old this code is - resp. what version of joda- time was used when it was developed. >> we tried to upgrade from joda-time 2.1 to 2.3, but we get now NPEs, >> because our DateTimeFormatter instance suddenly has no longer a printer: >> >> ================= %< ================= >> DateTimeFormatter FORMATTER = new DateTimeFormatterBuilder() >> .appendMonthOfYear(2) >> .appendOptional( >> new DateTimeFormatterBuilder().appendLiteral('-').toParser()) >> .appendDayOfMonth(2) >> .toFormatter(); >> assertNotNull(FORMATTER.getPrinter()); >> ================= %< ================= The formatter was actually never used to parse, we always used only the printer to support negative day of month values. Funny enough, those negative values are already printed with joda-time 2.1 without the optional part. So, in the end it seems to be a case of bitrot ;-) Cheers and thanks for your help, Jörg |

This was changed here: https://github.com/JodaOrg/joda-time/commit/46b817a006e768865b1f0d2896e814dfa2d3244f It basically makes the builder behave more correctly. Your test code is adding an optional parser to the builder and then trying to retrieve a printer. That deosn't seem like a reasonable thing to expect to work. thanks Stephen On 27 August 2013 11:11, Jörg Schaible <Joe...@sc...> wrote: > Hello, > > we tried to upgrade from joda-time 2.1 to 2.3, but we get now NPEs, because > our DateTimeFormatter instance suddenly has no longer a printer: > > ================= %< ================= > DateTimeFormatter FORMATTER = new DateTimeFormatterBuilder() > .appendMonthOfYear(2) > .appendOptional( > new DateTimeFormatterBuilder().appendLiteral('-').toParser()) > .appendDayOfMonth(2) > .toFormatter(); > assertNotNull(FORMATTER.getPrinter()); > ================= %< ================= > > A test with version 2.2 reveals the same problem.
