> Do you think we might be able to package JMRI as a JavaFX application? As of JavaFX 2.2, Oracle has bundles cross-platform application packaging into the JDK. (see https://blogs.oracle.com/talkingjavadeployment/entry/native_packaging_for_javafx). Here's the real problem for us with regards to the javafx packaging: Bundle per target platform * Bundle formats are platform specific. Currently a native bundle can only be produced for the same system you are building on. We would need to have multiple build servers, one per architecture that we're dealing with. While some of the developers have Mac boxes, with virtual platforms for Windows & Linux, that's not an environment we have for doing our builds. And I suspect we're not likely to find it, most especially in an externally hosted environment. We can build .tar.gz files in a cross platform fashion, and zip files as well. Even the Windows exe installer can be created on Mac OS X or Linux. Mac .dmg files are the cross-platform bugaboo. -- david d zuhn Saint Paul Bridge & Terminal Ry. zoo @ stpaulterminal.org |
