Otis, I may be wrong, but I don't think that declaring the page as HTML vs. XHTML should make any difference as to what CSS is supported (html tags yes, but not css). Transitional vs. strict can make a (big) difference. BTW, regarding the need to include a DOCTYPE, everybody seems to advice so. But on the other hand, as you will know, the recent HTML5 spec just says <!DOCTYPE html> simple, eh? And I would expect IE9 to understand html5. Another idea, Otis: do you know that there are special header tags to direct MSIE to use compatibility mode? Sort of telling it: behave as IE8. So you wouldn't need to change that much maybe. |
