On the other hand, I imagine that the application will be used mainly by trained users --which will likely be keen to use the command line or console--, while the applet is clearly directed to novice users; so there are reasons in favour both of a simple (novice) and a powerful (no menubar available) pop-up menu. Rethinking of it, a simple menubar will be of little use: trained users will have to use console, but menu could be handy. Novice, untrained users will not be using the app. So, maybe all current commands in the popup (e.g. varied colors) should be copied to the menubar to make it powerful. > I think we can offer much of the basic Jmol functionality in three > levels or less. as a user, it is frustrating to try and navigate > four or more levels of nested menus. most applications follow this > rule as well (at least, here in OS X land ;-). > > I think we can get rid of the few four-level menus in the Jmol Popup > now, with some careful redesign. I agree with these. I will try to work on a proposal for redesign, but meanwhile opinions are needed, please! |
