Dear all, I've a question concerning the 3rd column of the peakflow output file. What does it represent? And what are the units? Does anybody know that? thanks Silvia ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Silvia Simoni PhD DICA - Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Universita' di Trento via Mesiano 77, 38100 Trento, ITALY tel. +39 0461 882610 fax. +39 0461 882672 e-mail: sil...@in... |

Sorry, this email was an error. It was a draft I had started some time ago, but I verified that that it was wrong. I've sent it now erroneusly. Giovanni 2008/9/28 G. I've just started to have a look at Jgrass sources, and while reading the addPathToJna(...) method inside https://svn.dev.cocos.bz//svnroot/jgrass/jgrass3.0/trunk/eu.hydrologis.jgrass.libs/src/eu/hydrologis/jgrass/libs/utils/NativeUtilities.java it seems to me there's an error: it checks for jnaLibraryPat, but after "// if not add it" it checks: if (jnaLibraryPath != null) shouldn't it be if (jnaLibraryPath == null)? 2008/02/29 - Since many asked for it, the JGrass team finally releases a prealpha JGrass package. This is the first touchable result of a long time of heavy development to migrate the old JGrass functionalities into the new udig framework. Also the new website and trackers, based on the Savane engine, are on their first run at the Free Software Center. If this release has been possible, then only throught the great uDig community that accepted us and gave us every needed help. Hat off to Refractions and its developers. Welcome to the new JGrass prealpha, the leap year edition!! Go to www.jgrass.org to try it out! Soon also this mailinglists will be migrated to the new ones. Cheers, Andrea |

Hi Doug, I cc to the list, so they also get some news about the new JGrass. I've been pretty busy lately and didn't give much explanations :) > I have many basic questions. what is the difference between JGrass > and uDig? udig is a GIS framework that builds on the eclipse rcp framework. We build on that one with the new JGrass. From that we gain clean development and the whole vector and remote data dealing. JGrass adds the whole analysis part to that mature framework that is mainly dedicated to visualization. > How well do they run in windows? Very well! > were they originally > developed in Linux? No, it depends, some of us develop on windows, some on mac and some on linux. > How does JGrass and uDig interface with Grass? We have kept the workspace and raster data compatibility and can execute GRASS commands. The GRASS commands that are left out are those that need mouse interaction. > I am glad that you are "aiming to enhance the console engine", but I > need an application in the near future. It depends on what you need to do. It is already very powerfull, but in an early development status. > I am not familiar with IRC meetings. The Thursday meeting is listed > at 10:am is that EST? Is there anyone in the US you could > recommend? The good thing is that you will be able to hire developers that have knowledge in the IBM framework, the eclipse rcp, and that one is well documented. Anyway there are two big players that give support in the states (and probably more that I do not know), with whom we are in contact: The coordinators and maintainers of udig, which btw are based in Canada: http://www.refractions.net/ And the openplans guys that are based in New York: http://www.openplans.org/ Hope that was of help. If you need to know more feel free to ask. If you need to talk through skype or similar, we can arrange it. Try to define a meeting time and I will try to be there. JGrass could indeed be a good choice for you then, since we are aiming to enhance the console engine that has the main target to script groups of operations and also chain them and lots of other nice stuff. Dear JGrass Developers: Happy New Year! I am starting a new project and am considering moving my models into JGrass. I do individual-based models for endangered species - basically simulating how landscape patterns affect biological processes. I have a model coded in Delphi. I would like to put it on the web so that managers can upload their landscape patterns into the model and run it on a central server. Managers keep their data as shapefiles. Typically, it takes a month for me to convert ArcGIS shapefiles into simple ASCII code for integration with my Delphi program. I imagine JGrass would allow me to automate that? I have also been told that transferring the code from Delphi to Java should be relatively painless. Note, I am biologist who knows just enough about programming to be dangerous. Would sincerely appreciate any advice or discussion, Doug Doug Bruggeman Visiting Assistant Professor Michigan State University Skype: dougbrugg 513-304-2300 dou...@gm... |

Dear friends, dear colleagues, sorry for crossposting. I would like to draw your attention to the European codesprint page: http://wiki.osgeo.org/index.php/European_GIS_Code_Sprint The code sprint is currently being organized and we trying to estimate the needs of the developers/users attending and obviously the needs of organizers (that are not part of the gfoss community and need some help to do things like we wish them). We have recently added some information to the wiki and are waiting for some proposals for accommodation/food packages to supply you with. Please have a look at the page and feel free to add comments/advices. For organizing purposes we need that the persons currently defined as "interested", move one step forward and give some further information, in order to get an approximate number of people attending the sprint. Please add or move yourself to the http://wiki.osgeo.org/index.php/European_GIS_Code_Sprint#Attending_people section. Please also take a look and contribute to the wishlist page: http://wiki.osgeo.org/index.php/European_GIS_Code_Sprint#What_do_I_need_for_the_sprint.3F_-_wishlist Regarding the "mapping Sunday" we are not yet sure that this will be feasible, since we are missing someone with the competences to prepare this properly. Volunteers are obviously highly appreciated. For further info we will update the wiki page at: http://wiki.osgeo.org/index.php/European_GIS_Code_Sprint and post just to the osgeo discuss list. I really hope to see some of you in Merano, Andrea |

Hi all, since JGrass is heavily working towards the 3 version merging with udig, also the SVN structure will change, reflecting a bit more the professional behavior of udig. The future structure will be: jgrass3.0 |-- branches # for future branches and parallel projects |-- docs # for documentation |-- tags # versions |-- trunk # the development version |-- community # a folder for community playground |-- moovida # moovida's plugins until they are not ready to go trunk By this weekend everything else apart of the last jgrass version (jgrassrevolutions) will be history, in fact SVN history and will always be available, but will be removed from the main svn view in order to gain a bit more order and less scatteredness. After the release of JGrass 3.0 in February (hopefully), also jgrassrevolution will disappear. So please for those interested in some of the older versions of JGrass, act now to get your stuff. Monday the repository will look much more clean. Developers of the new JGrass, on Monday take some time to find the modules you are working on. They won't be all on trunk, which should get the version that will first be part of the udig updating mechanism and therefore compile properly and have no problems (apart obviously of some nasty bugs that can't miss). After working with the udig community at foss4g2007 I'm really sure that joining them has been one of the best moves for JGrass ever. I ask the users to be patient and wait for the next release to come. It will be worth it. Have a great day Andrea |

Dear members of the JGrass list, dear community. The decision has been taken to join the UDIG team with all the JGrass stuff that is possible to migrate to their project. Our opinion is that the JGrass project will gain several advantages from this merging event, in organisation, as well as community, as well as vector tecnology, as well as etc. etc. The time is mature to take this step for our community and even if the JGrass project will virtually stop because of the migration time, I'm pretty sure that this will be the last time we will suffer of heavy framework issues. Acknowledgements go to the members of the UDIG team, that accepted our offer and to guide us with their help through the migration process. Also thanks to Riccardo Rigon from the C.U.D.A.M., who believes and trusts us and supports us also economically in this migration process. Thanks to everyone who cared and cares. We will meet on the IRC chat of UDIG on 10.00 PST (this is not completely fixed, I'll keep you uptodate) to discuss the feasibility and steps of this migration. Best regards, Andrea Antonello |

Hi Ned, I'm very sorry for this delay. JGrass 2.0 is based on the older jogl libraries that are not supported on the intel macbooks. In JGrass 2x we started to support macintels, but that broke the non macintel part and I got stuck of this continuos jogl portability problems. At the moment I'm working on substituting the JGrass Monitor with something more suitable. For now, on macintel the SVN version should work, but probably it is better to wait for the next release of JGrass, which will have a new display system. Dear List, I apologize for sending an installation question but have searched for answers without success before resorting to this. I downloaded and installed R 2.4 then downloaded and ran the installation script for JGrass2.0 (install script attached in case anyone is interested in the particulars of my environment). I can launch JGrass but can not load any projects. The window gets stuck with a running clock and a message that says "Loading workspace, please wait..." When I click on most buttons nothing happens, but the console display button yield an error (picture attached) saying that the Grass Environment variables need to be set. I assume that jgrassmacosx.cfg or start.sh would be the logical places to set shell environment variables that control the execution of JGrass, but I don't know what to change in the startup scripts. Any advice would be welcome, Ned __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com |

You are sure that the ant build exits without errors? try and: ant clean and then again to build with: ant Show me your output. The error below seems more a missing link to a native library (in this case the jogl.dll or so). I assume you run JGrass through the start.bat script. Can you also paste that one in your next mail? JGrass needs the ermapper package in order to be compiled. Licence issues do not permit us to include it in the jgrass release. If you never use r.in.ecw, then just remove the ecw folder inside bsh/commands/r/in/ Andrea * [A.D. 14/10/06 03:02], G. Hello, I've just begun testing JGRASS for the first time. I probably will need it as a GUI to some modules I will need to develop for my universityt final work. Ladies and gents, the new JGrass wiki has been created to contain all the JGrass wishes and problems. The link is: http://bedu.ing.unitn.it/jgrass and the chapter is JGrassRevolutions. In the next week, we will collect mainly ideas about the display system (but all the issues can be put there). On monday the 16th we will merge everything and define who will do what, in order to solve as much issues as possible. I will try to resume somehow Whatever will be discussed in this list and the Italian one and put it on that wiki. I wish us all a big luck, JGrass needs a boost forward. Good work to anyone involved. I feel that the alternate rendering paths using OpenGL pBuffers and Java2D should be merged into one to avoid problems related to the differences between the texture images rendered in the two cases. John |
