The reason is that indeed the program would be able to work with the files but some changes have been introduced in checking for the format of the dictionary files when opening them. This is necessary to decide whether or not a presented presumably-dictionary is indeed one. Jgloss quite rightly will refuse to open non-dict files or dict-files in a format it does not support. Apparently there are now some new bugs in the detection algorithm so that the program thinks the dict files are not of a valid format and aborts using these files. > I tried saving the edict file as UTF-8 as you suggest and interestingly, > while I'm now able to add the dictionary file without any errors, the > translation window is unable to properly show the Japanese characters (no > kanji, hiragana, katakana - just square boxes and western alpha-numeric > text). I tried saving edict in other formats (JIS, shift-JIS etc) but these > other formats generate errors when I try to add the dictionary file. This has nothing to do with the dict files but is a font issue. Try to verify the settings in Edit - Preferences - Style. There is also a button on the bottom where you can let jgloss auto-configure your fonts. Michael also has some information on setting the correct font for Java at http://jgloss.sf.net. |
