I use jfs on 2TB storage and detect, if mount with noatime - performance degrade more 25 times slowly. This one.
Two. Jfs always slowly than ext3. Example, ext3 show 120Mb per seconds, jfs shows 48Mb. This strange, very big difference.
Configuration:
Distributive: Debian (etch 4.0r6)
Kernel: 2.6.18-6-amd64
Processor: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU 5160 @ 3.00GHz
Memory: 14Gb
Two 2Tb storage, plug over fiber channel.

I found issue. Add next strings in /etc/modprobe.conf:
options jfs commit_threads=16
options jfs nTxLock=65536
options jfs nTxBlock=65536
as result - excellent performance.
Main here is - nTxBlock.
